Discerning God’s Voice With God’s Word

Key Text: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16

One of the fastest ways to know whether it is God speaking is to check if it sounds like God. And the only reliable way to know what God sounds like is to know what God has already said. Many believers want fresh revelation, but they are ignoring the old revelation. They want God to speak, but their Bible is looking at them like, “So you have abandoned me like that?” If you want to discern God’s voice, you must become familiar with God’s Word. God will not contradict Himself. He is not the kind of God that says one thing in Genesis and changes His mind in your DM.

The Bible is like WiFi. Once you are connected, everything becomes clearer. When a thought comes, you can quickly test it. If a voice says, “It is just small lying, everybody does it.” But Scripture says we should put away falsehood. Or someone says, “I know it is wrong, but it is business strategy.” Meanwhile God calls us to honesty and integrity. God’s voice always carries the accent of Scripture. That is why Satan is also a dangerous speaker, because he can quote Bible, but he will twist it. In Matthew 4, Satan quoted Scripture to Jesus, but Jesus responded with Scripture correctly. That is mastery.

This is why some people fall into strange decisions and call it “God told me.” Someone will say, “God told me to leave my spouse because I deserve happiness.” Meanwhile the Bible says marriage is covenant, not cruise ship. Or someone says, “God told me to steal this money because I will use it for ministry.” That is not revelation, that is corruption with anointing. God does not sponsor sin to accomplish His will. If it is not in line with Scripture, it is not God, even if you heard it while fasting on a mountain.

Prayers and Confession
Father, give me hunger for Your Word. Let my spirit be trained by Scripture. I declare that the Word of God is my standard, my compass, and my confirmation. I reject every voice that contradicts the truth. Holy Spirit, guide me into all truth and help me discern accurately. In Jesus name, Amen.
