Your Peace Does Not Need Everybody’s Approval
Key Text: “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God?”Galatians 1:10
A surprising number of our offences begin with one simple expectation: “They should have treated me better.” We expect people to understand our intentions, appreciate our efforts, notice our sacrifices, and respond exactly the way we imagined. Then somebody fails the assignment, and suddenly our peace disappears. The truth is, people will sometimes disappoint you simply because they are people, not because you are worthless.
Jesus did not live His life trying to keep everybody happy. Some people praised Him, others questioned Him, and others wanted Him gone, yet He remained focused on the Father’s will. If your peace depends on everybody liking you, you have given too many people access to your emotional remote control. One person’s opinion should not have the power to switch your joy on and off. You can receive correction without becoming crushed by criticism and appreciate encouragement without becoming addicted to applause.
There is also freedom in realizing that you cannot control how people interpret you. You can explain yourself sincerely and someone may still misunderstand you. You can do the right thing and somebody may still complain about it. Your responsibility is faithfulness, not universal approval. When your heart is settled in God’s acceptance, you stop fighting every misunderstanding and start saving your energy for things that actually matter.
Prayer and Confession
Lord, deliver me from the need to be constantly understood and approved by people. Help me to value Your opinion above human applause and criticism. Give me confidence to do what is right without becoming controlled by people’s reactions. Amen.
Reflection
Whose opinion has too much influence over my emotions? Do I become offended when people fail to appreciate what I do?
