WHAT ARE YOU TREASURING?

Key Text: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21

Everybody has something they treasure. It may be money, family, career, relationships, comfort, reputation, ministry, or the dream of finally buying that car you have been pricing online for three years. Jesus teaches us something deeper: whatever we treasure will eventually capture our heart. Your treasure does not simply reveal what you have; it reveals what has your affection, attention, confidence, and sense of security.

This is why money is such a powerful heart indicator. Money itself is not evil, but the way we relate to it can expose what we really trust. If you are constantly worried about having enough, constantly comparing what you have with what others have, or constantly measuring your worth by material possessions, your heart may be leaning toward money for security. On the other hand, when you can give, save, spend wisely, and still remember that your ultimate security is in God, you are demonstrating that money is your servant rather than your master.

Think about a person who says, “I don’t worship money,” but every decision is controlled by money. They will compromise their values for it, sacrifice their peace for it, neglect relationships for it, and sometimes even forget God while chasing it. That is more than having money; that is allowing money to have the heart. The heart check today is simple but uncomfortable: If someone followed your time, spending, thoughts, and priorities for one week, what would they conclude you treasure most? The answer may reveal something your mouth has not yet admitted.

Prayer and Confession
Father, help me to treasure what truly matters. I refuse to allow money, possessions, recognition, relationships, or earthly achievements to become the centre of my heart. Teach me to use what You give me wisely without allowing those things to control me. Let my greatest treasure always be Christ, His Kingdom, His Word, and His purpose for my life. I declare that my security is in God, not in what I possess. Amen.

Reflection
What do you think about most when you have free time? What are you most afraid of losing? Does your use of money reflect your faith and values? If God asked you to surrender something you deeply value, what would be hardest to release?
