You’ve been Delivered
Colossians 1:13
Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Many times the battles we fight as a believer came as a result of our ignorance about the finished works of Christ and what it fully entails. Kindly go back and read the opening text, but this time pay attention to the tenses used. You will notice that the use of tense there is in the past. The implication of this therefore is that God isn’t going to deliver you, he already done that.
“Deliver” in the Greek means “to draw to one’s self, to rescue”. So, the text might as well be written as “who hath drawn us to himself or who hath rescue us”. Deliverance then in its real sense is a movement from a place or domain of unrest to another domain of rest.
Upon the belief in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, a Christian is delivered. He is free from the domain of Satan and brought to the domain of Christ where he reigns. Also, a Christian is someone whose sin has been forgiven and has redemption by Jesus’ blood (Col 1:14); this is the person who hath been delivered as stated in verse 13. Now, if actually we have the new life received when we believed, then we are no longer part of the old, evil lineage, sickness and curses that has held us bondage. Every handwriting against us had been blotted and nailed to the cross (Col 2:14). Hallelujah!
