Devote Yourselves to Prayer

Colossians 4:2

Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.

The reason why many believers find it difficult to pray ceaselessly is because they have not seen prayer as a fellowship or as a relationship. The only time many find time to pray is when they have a request or a pressing need which they can not solve by there own strength.

But this is not meant to be so. Beyond making request, what prayer does is that, prayer brings into you the consciousness of the FatherGod, that is, it makes you see God as a Father. It brings you into the consciousness of a Father-son relationship. Everyone values the relationship of an earthly father, and the communication with him often times is not only when we want to make request.

So also our father in heaven, prayer drives in you the act of total dependence on God, the arm of flesh will always fail, but when you pray, it simply means you are helpless and you want God who is your father to be involved in helping you make decisions and solve situations. This continually brings growth to your spiritual life, it builds you up to be God conscious. Jude says ” But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,” (Jude 1: 20) The apostles stated that they would devote themselves to the word and to prayer… ” But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.” (Acts 6: 4)

So persevere in prayer, build yourself up praying, continue in it… Build relationship consciousness in prayer, you are not a stranger.
