In Jesus’ Name
Devotional Reading: But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold! But I will give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, get up and start walking.” Acts 3:6 CEV
We are very familiar with the story of the man at the Beautiful gate (read, Acts 3:1-8. Notice that this man who was “lame from birth” was at church EVERY day! His friends would carry him to the temple gate, and he would sit there every day and ask for money from those coming in. Think about that. He’s at church, and he’s asking for money. Why? He’s asking for money because he did not believe the only thing he truly needed, which was to be healed and walk, was even possible!
Our churches today are filled with the same people. You may be one of them. We go to church. We sing the songs. We listen to a sermon, then walk out the door, and nothing has changed. This story is a great reminder that it’s not going to church that changes us. It’s the power only in the name of Jesus that can bring the healing and the change we need.
Peter and John didn’t have magical powers. They had faith in God found in the man, Jesus. They simply believed in the words Jesus spoke to them in John 14,“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do because I am going to the Father. WHATEVER YOU ASK IN MY NAME, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
Do you believe that? Do you believe it for yourself and for others? There is still power when we speak and demand things in His name over people. He can heal the parts of them they think are impossible. He still heals people physically. He still heals marriages. He still breaks addictions. He still frees people from anxiety and depression. There is still power in His name.
Prayer and Confession
Are there situations you think are impossible to break through. Use the name of Jesus, with faith in His name and Speak the name of Jesus over it.
