Don’t Give Up Too Soon
Devotional Reading: and he said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And behold, God has granted you all those who sail with you.’ So take heart, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have been told. Acts 27:24-25 ESV
Most of us might have heard that the brain responds to fear in two ways, either fight or flight. When the body is under extreme stress, a psychological reaction makes you decide if you will stay and “fight” a problem or take “flight” and run away from the issue.
We are being inundated with fear right now. We are in one of the greatest times of uncertainty that we’ve seen in decades, and the same fear we’re all feeling can manifest differently in each of us. When we feel fear, it’s important to remember that the God who created peace is with us and will never leave us during a storm. God never promised that we wouldn’t go through storms or times of uncertainty; He promised that He would be right there with us as we walk through them.
As we face uncertainty, it is vital that we don’t give up too soon. In our text, Paul encouraged the men to stay with the ship because he had a promise that God was going to bring them through the storm.
No matter what happens in our world, we can cling to a Savior who will bring us through. Storms will come; outlast them. Uncertainty will come; refuse to be shaken. There’s never been a storm that hasn’t eventually relented, and the same will be true of your life. Stay with the ship; the storm will pass!
Prayer and Confession
Lord, help me to trust in your promise and hold on to it in the midst of my uncertainties. Amen!
