Prayer Plus Obedience Equals Right Result

Devotional Reading: 1 John 3:22 – “And we receive from Him anything we ask, because we keep His commands and do what pleases Him.”

Imagine praying for a healthy body while eating a meat-pie and soda combo at midnight. Or asking God for a job and you haven’t updated your CV in five years.
Sometimes, we sabotage our own prayers. Prayer isn’t magic, it’s a partnership, and obedience is your side of the deal.

God told Joshua, “Be strong and courageous… obey the law… THEN you’ll be prosperous” (Joshua 1:8). The “then” means results follow obedience. Prayer opens the channel, obedience keeps the water flowing. You can’t pray for God’s direction and then go left because it feels right.

Look at Peter in Luke 5. He toiled all night, caught nothing. Then Jesus showed up, told him to cast his net on the right side. Did Peter argue? Yes a bit—but he obeyed. The result? Boat-sinking breakthrough! Prayer got the instruction; obedience activated the answer.

Sometimes, the problem isn’t that God hasn’t answered—it’s that we’re not following the instruction attached to the answer. Obedience might look like forgiving someone, taking a job you didn’t expect, giving, or letting go of comfort. Hard? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.

Prayer and Confession
I obey God’s instructions, no matter how small. I won’t pray in one direction and walk in the opposite, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
