When Networking is Worldly Ambition
Devotional Reading: “And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not…” Jeremiah 45:5 (KJV)
There is nothing wrong with connecting with people. Even Jesus had circles and relationships. The problem begins when believers start calling ambition “destiny networking.” Many believers are not building godly connections; they are building ladders to self promotion. You attend an event with no real interest in the purpose of the meeting, only the potential “who is who” in the room. You approach people not because God led you, but because your ambition whispered their names. Suddenly, you label it “strategic positioning.” Meanwhile, heaven is looking at you with the side eye.
It looks like vision. It looks like progress. Nobody suspects that something so respectable could be spiritually harmful. But when networking is driven by pressure, insecurity, or competition, it drains your intimacy with God. You start comparing grace instead of celebrating it. You begin forcing doors instead of following God’s leading. Before long, success becomes your new god, and ministry becomes a performance stage. This is why James warned about “earthly, sensual, devilish wisdom.” It looks wise but pulls you away from God.
Real kingdom relationships are built on purpose, not desperation. God connects you upward, forward, and inward. He never connects you into anxiety or performance. If every connection in your life is about getting ahead, you will eventually lose your soul in the process. But when your ambition is surrendered, God lifts you in His own timing. Today, allow the Holy Spirit to check your motives. Networking is helpful, but godliness with contentment is powerful. Stay ambitious for God, not for applause.
Prayer and Confession
Father, purify my motives. Deliver me from worldly ambition and the pressure to perform. I yield my desires, dreams, and goals to Your will. I confess that every relationship in my life aligns with divine purpose. I grow by Your leading, not by human striving. Amen.
