He is Right There
Matthew 14:16-17
Jesus said, “That isn’t necessary—you feed them.” “But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish!” they answered.
The look on her face was a stressed one, she was tired and yet she wanted to finish up with the cloth she was sewing, suddenly she stood up from her chair wanting to reach a height where she kept some of her things she uses for work. I was there reading a book while I watch my sister struggling with the height, I have no problem getting what she wanted because I was a little taller than her. Then I spoke up and offered to help. “Oh! I forgot you are there, please help me,” she said.
The disciples had the same situation on their hands, the crowds were hungry and they were in a remote place and time was passing out. They told Jesus to send the people away so that they can go to the villages to look for food themselves. Jesus challenged his disciples to get them food, but their response was that what they had was just a little boy’s food-pack. All they seemed to be aware of was their lack. Yet standing with them was Jesus who had performed several miracles in their presence.
Sometimes we get so engrossed and wrapped with our challenges and then try to figure them out for ourselves with our often limited perspective that we miss the abiding presence of the risen Christ. We must understand and build a consciousness that Christ is everywhere we are because he lives in us.
CONFESSION
I am not focused on my circumstances instead, I am consistently aware of God’s presence above them.
Amen.
