God our Reconciler

Romans 5:10

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Indeed God demonstrated his own love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. The separation between God and humanity caused by sin has for whatever reasons made many hold on to the belief that the enmity between God and man is two sided. Some even believed God used the death of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior to quench is anger against humanity caused by our sins. This belief has made many hold a wrong view of God as one who can get angry at man.

Our opening text today reveals clearly to us that God is a reconciler- one who restores to friendship and harmony. God is a peace maker. As revealed by our opening text, the enmity between God and man is one-sided. God has and will never fight man. He has and will never get angry at man.

We were the ones who posed ourselves as enemies of God through our sins. We caused the separation. In actual sense we were supposed to plead with God and solicit for renewal of relationship but unfortunately we never did.

God our father who is self sufficient and has nothing to loose, considered us important to himself even when we had nothing to offer him, took the first step in reconciling us unto himself through the death of His Son Jesus Christ even though we didn’t deserve it. God be praised. He demonstrated an unconditional love towards us.

Beloved, God is not mad at you and will never be. When He should have been mad at humanity, He rather initiated reconciliation which is against popular opinion and even gave us the benefit of deciding whether we want Him or not. Father God is our example of reconciling with men even when they wrong us. He is our example of being meek, showing us that meekness is not weakness but rather a display of great strength.
