I’m Forgiven

Ephesians 1:7 KJV

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

By reading the Old Testament you will have been struck with the importance it places upon the whole sacrificial system. This is because the pattern of recieving forgiveness in the Old Testament has to be by means of offerings and sacrifices. Sin had separated man from moving near to God and so for man to receive or ask anything from God, forgiveness is needed. Man needs to be forgiven on the basis of the blood. This the Old Testament saints do yearly. They had animals slaughtered and killed yearly and have the blood sprinkled on the mercy seat by the priest before their request is granted. The beautiful thing about this occasion is that, when they offer the sacrifices, they are declared justified and free, their sin was not accounted to them.

Now those sacrifices were but type and shadows, for in that sacrificial system God really has no desire “He did not delight in sacrifices and offerings…(Heb.10:8).” And so a body He has prepared. Himself was to bear the consequence and punishment of the sin of the world. Himself was to be the sacrifice so there wouldn’t be anymore sacrifices yearly, for this sacrifice of Himself was to be once and for all.

God’s own blood was required, “for the wages of sin is death…” And so He died so he could take away our sins, but much more He rose again for it is by that resurrection He can declare us forgiven not for a year but forever. He fulfilled all the claims of justice by one sacrifice.

Paul said, “in Him we have redemption through his blood the forgiveness of sins” – the forgiveness here in the Greek is Complete forgiveness. Your past, present and future sins were forgiven. He will need to die again if he needs to forgive your future sins, but no, this He did once and for all.

It is in the understanding that you have forgiveness that you can enjoy the overwhelming love of God you hear about everyday. You must accept and acknowledge that you were forgiven, it must sound true in your ears and have a seat in your heart ringing; I AM FORGIVEN.
