His Presence Brings about Direction
Exodus 33:15-16 AMP
And Moses said to Him, “If Your presence does not go [with me], do not lead us up from here. For how then can it be known that Your people and I have found favor in Your sight? Is it not by Your going with us, so that we are distinguished, Your people and I, from all the [other] people on the face of the earth?”
The presence of God is the most valuable asset a man can posses under heaven. This implies that if God is present, it does not matter who is absent; life is complete and everything is under His care.
In our anchor text, Moses was convinced that without God’s presence in his life, it was useless for him to attempt anything. When he spoke face to face with the Lord, he said, “…If thy presence go not with me, carry us up not hence” (Exodus 33:15). He was saying, “Lord, if your presence is not with me, then I’m not going anywhere. I won’t take a single step unless I’m assured you’re with me!”
Today, believers have the presence of God permanently with us by the Holy Spirit. He doesn’t have to come and go. Jesus said “…and lo I am with you till the end of the age.” (Matt. 28:20). The writer of Hebrew noted that “He will never leave nor forsake you…” Understanding and coming to the consciousness of God’s abiding presence always brings about supernatural and divine direction in our life’s journey, because we will be confident that He is there to guide us in making decisions.
The presence of God is the container of the voice of God. God can not be present and his voice is absent, that is why Moses needed God’s presence on their journey. Today we have Him in and within us, let us stay conscious of Him.
