The Lordship of Jesus Christ
Acts 2:36
Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified.”
The central message of the Bible is that “Jesus Christ is Lord.” I must say again that the most important truth in relation to the Christian experience is the lordship of Jesus Christ. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, it involves a recognition of His lordship, for the Savior who saved us when we received Him by faith is the Lord Jesus Christ. We cannot and do not receive Him as Savior only. We receive Him as Lord and Savior.
We need to know this. Lordship is inseparable from the redemptive work. He didn’t just save us from our sins, He also became the Lord of our lives, Paul says, we are not our own we are bought with a price. In other words, He has the full possession of us. When we come to the awareness of the lordship of Jesus Christ, what it means is that we acknowledge His ownership and we give up any personal rights, we let Him have the first place.
This we must acknowledge as believers. The resurrection of Christ proved Jesus was Lord; He was master over death and the grave. It gave Him claim to a position never held by another. Peter tried to explain, saying that “God has made this Jesus… both Lord and Messiah” (Acts 2:36). In essence, we must be ready to submit to every of His instructions and leadings, again He is not just our saviour, He is our Lord. By right of redemption we belong to Jesus Christ, but if He would be our Lord, we must let Him take first place in our life.
