Covenant Keeping God
By Kayode Emmanuel
Devotional Reading: “The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.” – Matthew 1:1 KJV
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. No believer should dispute this ageless truth. Having established that, it’s worthy of note that Jesus Christ did not come into the earth as a spirit, rather he came in the form of man only because on that premise can he live among men. His genealogy was traced from the patriarchs of faith down to his earthly parent.
The human writer of the book of Matthew was intentional about addressing Jesus as the son of David. The initial recipient of the writing were Jews and they understood what it meant. Long ago, David had been promised by Jehovah that his son will rule his people forever. Also, to Abraham that through his seed; Christ, the world will be saved (Psalms 132:11, Gal. 3:16). So, referring to Christ as the son of David and of Abraham speaks volumes to the audience, showing God to be a faithful promise keeper.
The birth of Christ was prophesied over four-hundred years before its fulfilment. It doesn’t matter how long the prophecy over you has been, be confident that God will bring it to pass at the due time. Hold on and believe, it shall come to pass.
Prayer and Confession
Every of God’s promises over my life begins to find expression in Jesus name. Amen
