Discerning Times and Seasons
Devotional Reading: Psalm 32:8 KJV
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
Fulfilling God’s plan for our lives requires discerning the times and seasons He has ordained for us. Just as a music conductor leads an orchestra, perfectly timing each instrument’s entrance, God orchestrates our lives, bringing people, opportunities, and experiences together at the right moment. In our anchor text, in the New Living Translation, God promises to “guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”
Imagine a puzzle with many pieces. Each piece represents a season or experience in our lives. As we discern the times and seasons, we begin to see how each piece fits into the larger picture of God’s plan. We understand that some pieces may seem insignificant or challenging, but they are essential to the complete puzzle.
Discerning times and seasons helps us avoid missed opportunities or premature actions. It’s like a farmer waiting for the right season to plant or harvest. If they act too early or too late, the crop may fail. Similarly, if we move outside of God’s timing, we may miss the fullness of His plan. In Genesis 41:39-40, Joseph’s discernment of the times and seasons led him to prepare for a famine, saving Egypt and fulfilling God’s plan.
Discerning times and seasons practically involves seeking God’s guidance through prayer, scripture, and wise counsel. It requires patience, trust, and obedience. We must be willing to wait, even when it’s difficult, and move when God says go. Remember, God’s plan is like a tapestry, intricately woven with each thread playing a vital role.
As we discern the times and seasons, we become more confident in our decisions and more effective in fulfilling God’s plan. We learn to rest in His sovereignty, knowing that He is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).
Prayer and Confession
Lord Jesus, grant unto me wisdom to discern the times and seasons, that I may fulfill your plan with precision and purpose.
