Exercising Authority in Prayer
Devotional Reading: Matthew 18:18 AMP
I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whatever you bind [forbid, declare to be improper and unlawful] on earth shall have [already] been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose [permit, declare lawful] on earth shall have [already] been loosed in heaven.
Prayer is one of the key ways we exercise our authority as believers. The scripture above reveals the power we have to impact both the physical and spiritual realms through our prayers. Our prayers are not passive requests; they are declarations of faith that release God’s power into our circumstances. When we pray with the understanding of our authority, we can boldly declare healing, breakthrough, and provision, trusting that God will act according to His will.
Consider this scenario, a parent praying for their child’s protection at school. With all the uncertainties in the world, from school violence to peer pressure, many parents feel anxious. However, a believing parent can pray from a place of authority, declaring God’s protection over their child, asking the Holy Spirit to guard them, and speaking peace into their child’s life. This is not simply a hope-filled request, but a declaration of faith in God’s promises, knowing that He is faithful to protect and guide.
As you pray today, focus on aligning your prayers with the authority you’ve been given. When you face situations that seem overwhelming, remind yourself that God has given you the power to bind the works of the enemy and release His blessings. Pray with boldness, trusting that your prayers have the power to change circumstances.
