The Cross – A Place of Exchange

Devotional Reading: God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. —2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV)

The cross might look like a place of pain and shame, but to the believer, it’s a beautiful symbol of divine love. It was at the cross that Jesus took our place, carrying the weight of our sins so we wouldn’t have to carry them ourselves. What we deserved—punishment—He took on Himself. And what we didn’t deserve—grace and forgiveness—He gave to us freely.

Think about that for a moment: we were the ones who messed up, yet Jesus paid the price. That’s like someone walking into a courtroom, seeing you guilty, and offering to go to jail in your place while you walk out free. That’s what the cross did—it was a divine exchange. Our filth for His righteousness. Our death for His life.

Because of the cross, we now have access to a new beginning. We’re no longer defined by our past or our failures. We’re no longer bound by guilt or shame. When God looks at us now, He doesn’t see our sin; He sees the finished work of Christ. That’s a powerful truth that should fill our hearts with peace and joy.

Sometimes, life may make us feel unworthy or too far gone, but the cross reminds us that Jesus saw us at our worst and still chose to love us. His arms stretched wide on that wooden beam were saying, “You are worth it.” That’s the beauty of the cross—it brings value to the valueless and hope to the hopeless.

So today, let the message of the cross settle in your heart. Remember, you’ve been loved with an everlasting love, and that love was proven at the cross. You are forgiven, free, and favored—not because you earned it, but because Jesus paid it all.

Prayer and Confession
Father, thank You for the cross. Thank You for taking my place and giving me Your righteousness. Help me to truly understand the depth of Your love and to walk in the freedom You’ve given me. Amen！
