Close the Door and Pour
Devotional Reading: “Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.” – 2 Kings 4:4 (NIV)
Let’s continue with the story of the woman in 2 Kings 4. In verse 4, Elisha gave a strange instruction, “Close the door.” Imagine that! This woman was broke, desperate, and under pressure, and the prophet told her to go indoors and pour oil in private. It sounds simple, but it’s deeply spiritual.
Some miracles are not public events; they’re private processes. In the place of quiet obedience, the supernatural flows freely. God sometimes asks us to “close the door” to distractions, opinions, and noise so we can focus on His instruction. Not everything God wants to do in your life should be done before an audience. Some breakthroughs are born in secrecy before they’re announced in testimony.
Closing the door also means separating yourself from doubt. You can’t mix faith and fear in the same room and expect results. The widow didn’t invite neighbors to spectate; she only took her sons, people who would believe and participate. Sometimes, your miracle depends on who you let into your “room.” If you keep surrounding yourself with people who say, “Are you sure this will work?” you’ll drain your faith before the oil starts to flow. In real life, this could mean cutting off negative voices, limiting distractions, and keeping your faith conversations within a trusted circle that believes God with you.
Now notice that the oil didn’t flow until she started pouring. Many believers pray and fast but never “pour.” They wait for the oil to multiply before they move, forgetting that the miracle follows action, not anxiety. Faith is not waiting for evidence, it’s acting on instruction. So, if God has told you something, start! Don’t wait till everything looks perfect; close the door, take the jar, and pour. The oil will obey faith, not fear.
