Prayer Works on You First, Not Your Situation

Key Text: “Not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42

Most of us enter prayer like we are going to submit a request form in heaven. “God, change this. Fix that. Touch this person. Send money. Do miracle.” And honestly, there is nothing wrong with asking. But what many people miss is that prayer is not just a platform for requests, it is a process of alignment. Before anything around you changes, something within you starts shifting quietly. You may come to prayer angry, frustrated, and ready to complain, but after spending time there, you suddenly find yourself calming down. Nothing outside has changed yet, but something inside you has.

Look at Jesus in the garden. He started with a very honest desire. “If it is possible, let this cup pass.” That is a real prayer. No filters. But as He stayed in prayer, something changed. He did not leave with a new situation, He left with a new submission. “Not my will, but yours.” That is the first miracle of prayer. It bends your will. Many of us are waiting for God to change our circumstances, while God is busy trying to change our posture. Because sometimes the problem is not what is happening to you, but how you are seeing it.

It is like when you are very hungry and angry, then you eat small food and suddenly you are smiling again. Did the world change? No. Your state changed. Prayer does that but on a deeper level. You may enter prayer saying, “God, remove this person from my life,” and come out saying, “Lord, give me wisdom to relate with them.” Same situation, but different mindset. That is how you know prayer has started working, even before results show outside.

Prayer and Confession
Lord, I receive grace to allow prayer work in me first. Let my will align with yours. Change my mindset, my reactions, and my perspective. Help me not to rush out of prayer unchanged. Amen!
