Honour is a Spiritual Language

Key Text: “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.” Romans 12:10

Honour is not just good manners, it is spiritual intelligence. In the kingdom of God, honour is like the language of heaven. When you honour people, especially those God has placed in your life, you are not worshipping them, you are simply recognising what God is doing through them. Dishonour is dangerous because it blinds you. Many people miss what God wants to give them, not because God refused, but because they despised the vessel He chose. Imagine refusing water because you do not like the cup. That is how some believers behave.

Honour begins from the heart before it shows in behaviour. You can smile and still be dishonouring. You can say “Sir” and still be sarcastic inside. God sees the heart. Honour is not about who deserves it, it is about what God commands. David honoured Saul even when Saul was behaving like a confused village chief. David could have killed him, but he said, “I will not touch the Lord’s anointed.” That is deep. Saul was wrong, but David’s honour was right. And guess what, honour preserved David’s destiny.

In practical terms, honour is how you speak about ministers, leaders, and fellow believers, especially when they are not around. Some people only respect pastors in church, but outside they turn into spiritual comedians, cracking jokes about everything. That is not humour, that is dishonour. If you cannot cover people, you cannot be trusted with authority. Honour is also how you treat fellow believers, the usher, the choir member, the security brother, the children teacher. In God’s eyes, they are not “small people.” They are His people. God does not rank value by microphone.

Prayers and Confession
Lord, deliver my heart from pride and familiarity. Teach me to honour what You honour. I receive grace to respect ministers, leaders, and fellow believers sincerely. I declare that my words will build and not tear down. I carry a culture of honour, and my life attracts divine blessings in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Think about your recent conversations. Have you spoken casually or negatively about a minister or believer? What would change if you spoke with honour instead?
