Victory Over Sin

Devotional Reading: Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Romans 6:1‭-‬2 NLT

What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? This argument was mentioned by Paul, because he thought if grace is greater than all my sins, then let’s continue sinning so that grace increases. This logic is not biblical, but a thought that the Romans were applying to justify their lifestyle.

Grace was never given with the intention to be a license to sin. Paul strongly refutes this erroneous idea. He believes the complete opposite: By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

As we know, death means separation, thus, “we have died” means we have been separated from sin. Sin is the kingdom of evil, it’s a lifestyle characterized by all sorts of immoral acts, curse words, etc. When we were not Christians, that was not only the world we lived in, but the world that ruled us.

In the kingdom of sin, we do not have the option to sin, we were obligated to sin because we were under its yoke. We make thousands of promises to stop sinning, but we could not comply because we were slaves.

But glory to God, the great news for us as Christians is that Christ on the cross not only gave us victory over Satan, but freed us. He took us out of the kingdom of evil and sin, so that sin could no longer obligate us to sin ever again.

Thank you Jesus because I am free from the bondage of sin, sin has no dominion over me. Amen!
