The Value of Patience

Key Text: “Be patient then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.” James 5:7-8

One of the biggest lies we tell ourselves is, “I am just waiting.” No, you are never just waiting. You are either trusting, worrying, complaining, growing, or giving up while you wait. Waiting is unavoidable. Patience is optional. Two people can stand in the same queue. One is smiling and chatting. The other is sighing every five seconds as if it is intentionally planned to punish them. Same waiting. Different attitudes. God is not only interested in what you receive at the end of the journey. He is also watching the person you become on the journey.

James compares patience to a farmer. Imagine planting maize today and returning tomorrow with a cutlass expecting harvest. Even your farm would laugh at you. Every farmer understands something many believers forget. There is a season between planting and harvesting. During that season, nothing seems to be happening above the ground, but everything important is happening beneath it. Roots are growing before fruits appear. God’s work in your life often follows the same pattern. While you are praying, obeying, and trusting, Heaven is working where your eyes cannot see. Delay is not always denial. Sometimes delay is simply development.

Think about Joseph. God gave him a dream, but the dream came with a long waiting period. He experienced betrayal, slavery, false accusations, and prison before the palace. Looking back, every painful season became part of God’s training program. Had Joseph become Prime Minister too early, he might not have had the wisdom to preserve Egypt and save his family. In the same way, God sometimes protects us from premature success because an unprepared blessing can become a burden. Patience is not God forgetting your address. It is God making sure the package arrives when you are ready to handle it.

Prayers and Confession
Father, teach me to trust You while I wait.
Help me to remain joyful and faithful even when I cannot see immediate results.
I declare that God’s timing is perfect. I will not rush ahead of Him or lose heart in the waiting season. Every delay in my life is working together for my good because my life is in God’s hands.
