THE WORD IS LIFE AND HEALTH
Key Text: “For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.”
Proverbs 4:22, KJV
God’s Word is not merely something we read to become more religious or to win Bible quizzes. Scripture says that His words are life to those who find them and health to their flesh. This means God’s Word carries a life giving influence that reaches beyond your Sunday worship into your thoughts, emotions, decisions, relationships, and everyday living. The Word does not just tell you what God can do; it teaches you how to live in the light of who God is.
Notice the phrase “to those who find them.” There is something about deliberately searching for and continually receiving God’s Word rather than casually hearing it once in a while. Think about medicine: having a prescription on your table does not help much if you never take it, and owning a Bible does not automatically mean its truth is influencing your life. The Word must move from the page into your heart, from your heart into your thinking, and from your thinking into your daily choices. Consistent hearing gives the truth of Scripture repeated opportunities to correct, strengthen, encourage, and restore you.
There are days when your mind feels tired, your emotions are unsettled, and life seems to have removed all the batteries from your joy. Those are not the days to run away from the Word but the days to lean into it even more. When you repeatedly hear God’s promises, wisdom, and truth, they begin to give your inner life strength and stability, just as food continually supplies strength to the body. So make God’s Word part of your daily rhythm, because a heart regularly nourished by truth is far better prepared to handle the pressures of life.
Prayers and Confession
Father, thank You because Your Word carries life and health. I receive Your Word into my heart, my mind, and every area of my life. As I consistently hear, meditate on, and practice Your Word, let its life giving power produce strength, wisdom, peace, and stability in me. I declare that I will not neglect the Word, but I will continually find, receive, and live by it. Amen.
Reflection
Am I merely owning and reading the Word, or am I deliberately allowing it to influence the way I think and live? What area of my life currently needs the life giving truth of God’s Word?
