DO NOT PREPARE FOR ENOUGH WHEN GOD IS PREPARING OVERFLOW

Key Text: “And the Lord said unto Elisha, Hear ye the word of the Lord; Thus saith the Lord, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel…” — 2 Kings 7:1 KJV

There is a difference between believing God for survival and believing God for abundance. Sometimes our prayers become so shaped by difficult circumstances that we only ask God for enough to get through the day. “Lord, just let me manage this month” can become our permanent vocabulary, and before long, we unconsciously build our expectations around barely enough. But God can move you from “How will I survive?” to “How can I steward what God has provided?” The four lepers in 2 Kings 7 woke up expecting to die in a famine, but God had already arranged an abundance they could not see.

What is striking about that story is that the provision was already on its way before the people knew anything about it. God caused the Syrian army to hear a sound and flee, leaving behind food, clothes, silver, and gold. The people inside Samaria were still discussing scarcity while abundance was already waiting outside the city. This is a powerful reminder that your current reality is not necessarily the full picture of what God is doing. You may be looking at an empty cupboard while God is arranging a table you have not yet seen.

However, overflow is not merely about receiving more; it is also about developing the capacity to handle more. If you suddenly receive what you have been praying for but lack wisdom, discipline, character, generosity, or proper stewardship, the blessing can become another source of trouble. A person who cannot manage ₦50,000 may not automatically become better at managing ₦5 million. Therefore, while asking God for increase, ask Him to increase your capacity, wisdom, discipline, and influence too. God does not only want to put something in your hands; He wants to make you capable of carrying it without dropping it.

Prayers and Confession
Father, enlarge my capacity for the increase You are bringing into my life. Deliver me from a mindset that expects only survival when You are able to provide abundantly. Give me wisdom, discipline, character, and understanding to steward every blessing, opportunity, relationship, and resource You place in my hands. I declare that I will not be imprisoned by the limitations of my present circumstances. My expectation is alive, my faith is growing, and my capacity is increasing. I receive grace to recognise divine opportunities, steward abundance wisely, and become a blessing to others through what You place in my hands.

Reflection
If God suddenly gave me the increase I have been praying for, do I have the wisdom and character required to manage it well?
