CHANGE YOUR INNER CONVERSATION

Key Text: “Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts.” Proverbs 4:23 MSG

There is a conversation you have more often than any other conversation in your life: the one you have with yourself. Nobody hears most of it, but it quietly influences your confidence, decisions, relationships and responses. You can receive encouragement from ten people and still go home and cancel everything they said with one sentence in your head: “But I don’t think I can do it.” Sometimes the loudest voice limiting you is not your enemy’s voice; it is an old version of yourself that you have allowed to keep talking.

This is why renewing your mind involves learning to challenge your own thoughts. When an opportunity comes and your first thought is, “I am not qualified,” pause and ask, “Is that actually what God says about me?” When you fail and your mind says, “I always ruin everything,” pause again. You made a mistake; that is a fact. “I am a failure” is an interpretation. A transformed mind learns to separate what happened from what it means.

Look at David before Goliath. David’s confession was remarkably different from the confession of the soldiers around him. They said, in effect, “Look how big this man is.” David said, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” David did not deny the giant’s size; he interpreted the giant in light of God’s greatness. That is the power of a renewed mind. Faith does not always make the problem look smaller; it makes God look bigger.

Prayer and Confession
Father, help me become conscious of the conversations happening within me. Give me wisdom to recognize thoughts that are contrary to Your Word and courage to replace them with truth. I declare that my mind is becoming a disciplined environment for faith, wisdom and godly possibilities. My thoughts are coming into agreement with God’s Word, and my words will increasingly reflect what He has said. Amen!

Reflection
What is one negative statement you repeatedly tell yourself that you need to confront with God’s truth?
