YOU ARE NOT JUST SAVED, YOU ARE GOD’S CHILD
Key Text: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” John 1:12
One of the beautiful things about being a believer is that you are not merely someone who escaped hell; you have been brought into a family. God did not save you and then leave you standing outside the house wondering whether you are welcome. Through Christ, you have been given the privilege of calling God your Father and relating with Him as His child. This changes the way you approach God because you are not trying to convince a reluctant God to notice you; you are learning to enjoy the Father who already loves you.
Think about a child who walks into his father’s house and asks for food without first submitting a five page application explaining why he deserves breakfast. Children understand access because they understand relationship, and there is something we can learn from that. Sometimes believers pray as though God is a very strict landlord who will throw them out if they make one small mistake, but the Father wants us to grow in confidence and intimacy with Him. You can come to Him, talk to Him, ask questions, receive correction and even tell Him when you are confused because you are His child.
Being God’s child does not mean everything will always go according to your preferred timetable. Children still have to learn, wait, obey instructions and sometimes hear the famous parental word, “No,” even when they strongly believe their idea is excellent! The difference is that you can trust the Father’s heart even when you do not understand His process. When you know that you are loved, you stop seeing every delay as rejection and every correction as punishment, and you begin to enjoy the security of walking with God.
Prayers and Confession
Father, thank You for making me Your child through Jesus Christ. I receive the revelation of Your love and refuse to live like an outsider in Your family. I approach You with confidence, knowing that I am loved, accepted and welcomed because of Christ. Amen.
