His Presence Brings Peace

² Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
As we all know, there is so much taking place in the world and in the church right now, there are many things being discussed on social media that’s causing much debate and division even among believers. There are many things pulling for our attention, and many things seeking to distract us and if as believers we are not careful we are bound to lose out on the awareness of God’s presence that brings peace.
The presence of God in the Old Testament was associated with Jerusalem – the city of God. ‘God lives here’. In particular, it was associated with the temple – ‘the holy place where the Most High dwells’; ‘God is within her’; ‘The Lord Almighty is with us’– Psalm 46: 2-11. Also, when Jesus was on earth, he declared that his body was the temple where God was present (John 2:19–22). On the day of Pentecost, God’s presence came to dwell with his people through the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ. In the New Testament, God’s presence is not in a physical temple but with his people – ‘a holy temple’ (Ephesians 2:19–22).
The implications of God’s presence now with us and in us by the Holy Spirit is such that the Psalmist let’s us see. He said, ‘God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear.’ There’s a kind of peace that saturates your heart and mind knowing that God is with you in every situation, that in fact you have to remind yourself that I ‘will not fear’ even if tempted.
Being aware of His Presence in and with you brings peace, Paul praying for the Thessalonians said, Now, may the Lord himself, the Lord of peace, pour into you his peace in every circumstance and in every possible way. The Lord’s tangible presence be with you all.
