Feed Consistently on the Word of God
1 Peters 2:1 NIV
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,
Babies crave pure breast milk because of its sweetness and the fact that they derive maximum satisfaction from it. Atleast that’s how far they can comprehend the huge benefit of breast milk.
God’s word encourages us to crave for pure spiritual milk just like new born babies do ( with pure breast milk), so that we can grow up in our salvation. The pure spiritual milk being referred to is actually the word of God.
Growing up in our salvation actually means growing up in the knowledge of Jesus our saviour and all His accomplishment for us in and through His death and resurrection.
Today’s text is a continuation of and response to verse 1 which says Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.
It is feeding on the word of God consistently that will enable you put to work the inherent ability in you to live a godly life and put to an end all sort of evil behaviours.
Beloved, we can never outgrow the pure spiritual milk of God’s word. We keep feeding on it. And the more we do, the more we grow in our salvation, hence the more we live godly lives here on earth.
CONFESSION
I give myself to God’s word,
I am growing in my salvation,
I consistently live a godly life.
