Are You Herald?
By Tosin Lawal
Devotional Reading: But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. 2 Timothy 4:5NIV
Often we have relegated the task of reaching the unsaved and preaching the good news to those known as Evangelists. However, we see the Apostle Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit instructing Timothy, a pastor, to do the work of an evangelist.
The truth is that the task of reaching the unsaved and preaching the good news about Christ cannot be single-handedly done by evangelists. The task is too enormous for them alone. The desire of God is that each and every believer will be an active herald of the good news about Christ Jesus. In order that Timothy will not yield to the wrong notion that pastors are not required to do the work of an evangelist, Paul instructed him emphatically that he should do the work of an evangelist. The task is not restricted to some set of persons in the body of Christ but to all believers.
A herald is simply a preacher and proclaimer of the good news about Christ Jesus. God needs you to reach the world of the unsaved. The truth is that God detests seeing men perishing. Even though the wages of sin is death, no person should be left to be condemned and perish because of the great sacrifice of Jesus that brought about redemption from the devil, sin, and death. Jesus already paid it all for us.
God’s word says that God so much loved the world that he gave Jesus Christ, the Messiah, to die and pay for the world’s sins that anyone who will dare to believe in him will not person but have eternal life. John 3:16
The reality is that if you don’t reach the unsaved in your vicinity and beyond, the hope of getting them saved is slim. God is desperately counting on you. Don’t say you will be praying for them. Nobody gets saved by praying for them alone. God’s word says it is the preaching of the gospel that imparts faith to be saved in the unsaved. Nobody will believe the gospel and be saved if he has not heard the gospel preached to him. The unsaved need to hear the gospel.
Are you a herald? If not, be a herald today and keep reaching men by sharing the good news about Christ Jesus with them. Save men from perishing.
Prayer and Confession
Make me a better Christian Lord. I will herald your gospel. Give me fresh burden for preaching the gospel in a world full of hostility.
