Jesus Modeled Hearing and Obeying the Father
Devotional Reading: “Then Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do…’” John 5:19 (NKJV)
One of the most shocking things Jesus ever said is that He could do nothing by Himself. Most believers read that verse like a passing sentence without realizing how heavy it is. The Son of God, the One who created the universe, said He could do nothing of His own initiative. That was not weakness. That was alignment. Jesus lived His entire life by listening to the Father and following His guidance. He showed us that supernatural living is not about being the strongest or the smartest but about being the most yielded.
You will notice that Jesus’ miracles were never random acts. He did not walk into a city and say, “Let me just heal twenty five people today so they will know I have power.” Every miracle flowed from direction. When He spat on the ground and healed the blind man, it was because the Father led Him. When He raised Lazarus, it was not because He wanted to impress the village but because He was following a divine timetable. Jesus never claimed originality. He claimed obedience.
This teaches us something precious. Many believers struggle with supernatural living because they want God to bless their plans instead of aligning with His voice. Jesus succeeded because He was connected. You cannot outsource intimacy and expect power. When you learn to listen to the Holy Spirit in everyday matters, you start seeing unusual results. Sometimes the solution is not loud. It may be a quiet nudge in your heart, like “Call that person,” “Do not go there,” or “Pray now.” The supernatural often hides in simple obedience.
Prayer and Confession
Father, I choose the path of alignment. Help me to hear You clearly and obey You quickly. I refuse to live by guesswork. As Jesus heard and obeyed, I also hear and obey by the Spirit. My steps are ordered by You. Amen!
