God’s Word is Alive
Devotional Reading: For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 ESV
The place God occupies in our lives is determined by our attitude towards His Word. The Word of God is not just ordinary language; it encompasses His thoughts and messages to us. We must treat it as vital, for indeed our lives depend on it.
From our anchor text, we recognize that the Word of God contains guiding principles and instructions that enable us to align ourselves perfectly with God’s will. The Contemporary English Version puts it this way: God’s word is vibrant and potent! It possesses a cutting edge sharper than any double-edged sword. His word can penetrate our spirits and souls, reaching deep into our innermost being, revealing the desires and thoughts of our hearts (Hebrews 4:12 CEV).
Furthermore, our text implies that God’s word is alive, meaning it is infused with the very life of God—it is eternal and everlasting. Moreover, when we receive the spoken word of God, it works effectively within us (1 Thessalonians 2:13). Therefore, let us make a firm decision to abide by the word of God, living in accordance with it, and we will witness a profound transformation in our lives.
