Worth More Than Sparrows

Devotional Reading: Jesus was inside the boat, sleeping with his head on a pillow. The followers went and woke him. They said, “Teacher, don’t you care about us? We are going to drown!”. (Mark 4:38 ERV)

How do we respond or react when we go through challenging times? As we press on in our study of the experience of Jesus and His disciples with the stormy Sea of Galilee, we discover the typical human response to u pleasant circumstances. While the storm raged, Jesus was asleep on a cushion, finding Him, they said, “Teacher, don’t you care about us? We are going to drown!” (vs 38).

For a moment, try to imagine how they must have said those words. Do you also think they would have shouted as they spoke to the Master? I think so. This raises the question of how we behave during unpleasant circumstances. As we ask the many questions in our mind, do we not doubt His love and commitment to us?

At a certain time, while He taught His disciples, Jesus said “Aren’t five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one sparrow is forgotten by God. Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth much more than many sparrows!” (Luke 12:6-7). Since God knows as much as the strands of hair on our heads, is there any detail our lives that would escape His attention? Surely not!

Therefore, we ought to go through life knowing how much we matter to God we must not let our view of God be stained through the happenings around us, rather we must build up our faith in God, who value us more than we do ourselves.

Prayer and Confession
Dear Father, I acknowledge the wonderful privilege to known and valued, and cared for by You. I received grace to interpret the happenings around me this way through Christ. Amen.
