How Prosperity Comes

Devotional Reading: “…And in whatever he does, he prospers.” Psalm 1:3
Prosperity is one of the most-discussed subjects among mankind. Everyone wants to prosper, and no one wants to fail. Another word used in place of prosperity is to flourish, to enjoy all-round success and accomplishment. However, while work and diligence is a good path, Psalm one reveals that there is more to prosperity.
In verse one, Scripture establish three kinds of relationships or companions which a man who seeks to prosper in the order of God must avoid. They are the counsel of the wicked, the path of sinners and the sit of scoffers. In other words, the prosperous man avoids the wicked and their counsels, and he does not pitch his tent and opinions with sinners and scoffers.
In the place of these, he rather delights in the Word of God, meditating on it day and night. Here we crack the code for prosperity: delighting in God’s Word and meditating on it all day long. It is not just reading of God’s Word as mere routine or obligation, but taking pleasure in it. If we delight God’s Word, we will seek it. In fact, with God’s Word, there would be no need for the counsel of the wicked, and the Word of God will pave our paths. Through meditation, we will find practical and applicable principles that brings about prosperity.
These being done, the attendant results are evident in the third verse. The man who does these things will be “like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers” (verse 3). In other words, he will be established, nourished, productive and fruitful.
Beloved, who are your counsellors, and what is their source? Do you delight in God’s Word and meditate on it regularly? Act on these.

Father, I thank You for Your Word today. I declare that I delight in Your Word and meditate on it always.
