Walking by Faith

Devotional Reading: For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 NASB

The believer’s sojourn here on earth is regarded as walking with God. Since God does not have a body that can be seen and touched, it becomes clear that it requires faith to walk with God. The need for faith in our walk with God becomes more glaring because there are times when the things God says do not seem to appear as He said it.

In Genesis 12, God told Abram to leave his country to the place He would show him, and promised to make Abram a great nation. In obedience, and perhaps with expectations, Abram set out. However when he got to the place of which God said, Scripture established that the area was inhabited by Canaanites at that time (Vs 7). As if that was not enough, we learn of famine in that territory (Vs 10). Yet Abram had not set out in ambition, but because God instructed him to.

Beloved, there are times when we have done all in accordance to God’s instructions, and the results we get negate what should be. But you are not alone. Remember Joseph, whose refusal to fornicate landed him in jail. And the three Hebrew young men, whose refusal to compromise their worship of God landed them in the furnace. How about Daniel, whose integrity landed him into the den of hungry Lions.

Moments when there is a conflict between what should be and the realities we see are times when our resolve to walk with God by faith must be reinforced. Abraham is regarded today as the father of faith chose to keep walking by faith.

Joseph experienced divine lifting, and Daniel and his brethren experienced divine deliverance. If we walk and are moved by the things we see, we would be missing out on a greater means to experience God. Remember, faith in God is more important than whatever you see.

Prayer and Confession
Dear Lord, thank You for Your guidance in all. As I walk with You, I receive Your help to further by faith, even when the happenings around me seem to be in contrast to Your Word. Amen.
