Faith That Receives Beyond Expectations
Key Text: “Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.” Matthew 15:28
One beautiful thing about both the Centurion and the Canaanite woman is that they did not just receive answers, they received more than expected. The Centurion asked for healing for his servant, but Jesus publicly praised his faith in front of people. The Canaanite woman came burdened and desperate, but she left with her daughter delivered and her faith celebrated by Christ Himself. Imagine Jesus looking at your faith and saying, “This one is great.” That is not a small compliment. God notices people who trust God deeply.
Another lesson here is that faith attracts divine attention regardless of background. One was a Roman officer, the other was a Gentile woman, yet Jesus highlighted both of them above many religious people of their time. This teaches us that God is not impressed by appearance, title, or religious performance alone. He responds to genuine trust. Sometimes the people expected to have strong faith are the ones panicking the most, while the people nobody noticed are quietly trusting God and seeing results. Faith is the great equalizer. It gives ordinary people access to extraordinary outcomes.
Many people stop at survival level faith. They just want enough to manage. But these two examples challenge us to believe bigger. The Centurion believed a word from Jesus could travel distance and heal. The Canaanite woman believed even crumbs from Christ carried power. Both of them stretched beyond limitation and received miracles. It is like someone entering a restaurant only hoping for free water, then discovering there is a full buffet available. Sometimes God wants to do more than we dare expect, but fear, unbelief, and small thinking keep people from receiving fully. Faith opens the door wide.
Prayer and Confession
Father, enlarge my faith beyond fear and limitation. I declare that I will trust You boldly and expect greatly from You. I receive grace to believe beyond my background, my feelings, and my present situation. My life will become a testimony of great faith in Jesus’ name. Amen.
