Pierced Love

Isaiah 53:5

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

He said he did it! My friend was trying to protect me knowing I’m weak and teary in receiving cane as a result of what I did wrong. We were both playing and unfortunately our play led me to mistakenly break a precious plastic chair of my teacher. And so when asked who broke the chair? My friend shouted “I did” before I could even talk and he took the cane for me.

This my basic school story reminded me of how God so love the world that in essence He lowered Himself over the wall of our sin, bringing gifts of love and healing into our weary and withdrawn world. Isaiah predicted the cost of this act of love, he said “He was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities and his wounds brings perfect healing” (emphasis mine). In other words, he took the punishment we were to take and the wrath that was upon us, he bore it. He was rejected by his Father so we can be accepted in the beloved.

Why not take a moment to ponder on this truth and praise Him for this wonderful act of love. He took up our sickness and gave us health, He was cursed so we can be blessed. Hallelujah!
