The Gift of Men

Devotional Reading: “Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.” Exodus 18:21

There is a syndrome that carnal man exhibit, common to the African setting; man love to be praised for every little thing and if possible take all there is to himself. Unfortunately, the syndrome has crept into the body of Christ unknowingly, where we seek for recognition and love to be everywhere either because we do not believe others could handle things well or lack of trust.

Moses already is been worn out trying to administer justice to the Israelites all by himself. Jethro, a gift to Moses in the guise of his father-in-law gave him a good counsel to appoint capable, godly and honest men to assist in providing justice to the people. Moses did just that and things became easier for him and the people as well.

Remember, we are all saved by the same Lord, we have one spirit and importantly, we are created as relational being. That which you have been struggling to get done all by yourself for a long time, look around you, the solution might have been put in the very same fellow you refuse to relate with for whatever reason there is to it. This isn’t to say, you should make your life open to all “Tom, Dick and Harry”, but that you look out for men of like minds, integrity, competent, one who will uphold the truth and that feared the Lord whom you will journey life with.

Verse 27, Jethro eventually left Moses, but trust me, he had already fulfilled his assignment in his life. The friends you keep around you, discover and utilize the gift they brought into you. God placed men in your life as gifts.
