Blessed to be a Blessing

Devotional Reading: “When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:9&10 NIV

The God whom we serve is an ageless one, He is the same yesterday, today and forever. It isn’t as though the God of the Old Testament is different from that of the New Testament. A careful study of the scripture reveals that, many times, the practices in the Old Testament are either explained, improved upon or abrogated as the case maybe in the New Testament. However, it is worthy of note to ascertain that the practices might change but the principles remain intact.

Such is the case in today’s text. We live in a modern world where not everyone is into agriculture any longer. Even if one is into it, it will be an offense to trespass into others property. This then imply, it will be impossible to do just as the Israelites were commanded to do as spiritual Isreal this day. But, the principle we learn from that is, whatever blessings, fortune we have received of God, it must be a channel whereby others become blessed as well. The poor, widows, orphans and what a few definitely should get blessed through us; that is true religion.

Now, take a look at yourself. The little God has blessed you with, has anyone ever benefited from it? If your reply is a No; then, you are not doing so well as the Lord desires of you. Why not arise this day, determine to be a blessing to others around you. Remember, God isn’t asking you to give what you do not have, but from the little you have got.
