God Helps

Devotional Reading: I look up to the mountains— does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! Psalms 121:1‭-‬2 NLT

Most of us have the ideology of self-help, that is, we find ourselves believing we can do all things by our strength without wanting to get help anywhere. This perception is has dangerous as whatever you can think of, such that we believers edge God out where we need Him the most.

This is a lie the devil sells to us thinking that that pain, addiction, weakness still boils down to us to overcome instead of asking for God to help.

From our text the Psalmist recounted that his help does not come from anywhere including self except from God. Benson Idahosa once said “There’s no one who ever asked God for help, that God ever denied help”.

Don’t get me wrong, great truths are packed into most books on self-help on topics like discipline, habits, and time management, however they fail when they put the onus upon us to overcome things or succeed in our efforts alone.

For us as Christians, the greatest guarantee of help we can get is God, by His Spirit. God his ready to help those who call to Him for help. God won’t need to help you if you can help yourself. You must be ready to relinquish your effort and let Him do His job through His abiding Spirit in you.

So, Believe God to do what you haven’t been able to achieve through your best efforts. God is ready and eager to do with you what you can’t do alone. You have to ask!

Prayer and Confession
God help me. I am helpless!
