Jesus’s Prayer; Revelation of Who We Belong To

By Kayode Emmanuel

Devotional Reading: “I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.” John 17:9 NIV

The theology of a believer is often revealed in his words, songs and on many occasion in his prayers. When you pray, that which you know and have come to believe is played and prayed out. Also, in prayers you can tell what one is experiencing. Especially, in the African context, you can tell what an individual is passing through by listening to their prayer request.

Jesus, who is our perfect example, revealed to us lots of amazing truths in his lengthy prayer towards the end of his earthly ministry. A careful study of today’s anchor text reveals to us whose we are, it’s a revelation of ownership. If it were a mortal man who said that, possibly there would have been a debate on the words. But, it was Christ himself who pronounced it.

Know this for a truth, you are of the Lord, he owns you, and he is committed to seeing you succeed in all you do. Just as, no one who owns a possession will desire it to get spoilt or abused, Christ owns your life and if you will allow him, He will instruct you and teach you in the way which thou should go: He will guide you with his eye and this is based on the truth that you are the Lord’s possession.

Prayer and Confession
I am a child of the Almighty, he owns me, keeps and sustains me. He will never leave me nor forsake me. I am preserved in His love. Halleluyah
