Embracing the Reality of Life’s Cycles and Seasons

Devotional Reading: To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die…” – Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

Life sometimes feels like a washing machine: spin, rinse, repeat. One moment, you’re enjoying the sunshine of answered prayers, and the next, you’re stuck in what feels like a never-ending rainy season. But here’s the thing: God designed life to have seasons—not to confuse us, but to mature and grow us. Just like the earth rotates through dry and rainy seasons, the believer must understand that both good and difficult moments are part of the divine rhythm of life. And no, you’re not cursed because you’re currently not “blossoming.” It might just be your planting season.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 lays the foundation: “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” That includes joy and sorrow, success and struggle, silence and songs. Life isn’t one straight highway; it has bends, bumps, and beautiful scenic routes. The problem is, many believers panic during winter-like seasons and question God’s love when life slows down or seems hard. But God never promised a life without seasons. He promised to be with us in all of them (Isaiah 43:2).

When we begin to view life through the lens of seasons, it changes our posture. We stop comparing our “planting” season to someone else’s “harvest” season. We stop trying to microwave what God is slow-cooking. The disciples had their seasons too. There were times of popularity with Jesus, and then came Gethsemane. Even Jesus had seasons of solitude, fame, betrayal, and victory. So, if He wasn’t exempt, neither are we.

Here’s a little perspective: farmers don’t panic when they don’t see crops the day after planting. They understand that time and process are part of the deal. Likewise, believers must grow in patience and faith, understanding that not every season is about producing fruit—some are for building roots. If you feel stuck or overlooked, maybe you’re not being buried; maybe you’re being planted.

Prayer and Confession
Lord, help me embrace the seasons of my life with wisdom and grace. Teach me to see You in every stage and to trust Your process even when I don’t understand it, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
