Be Wise: Know That Everything Is Not Urgent
Key Text: “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.” — Proverbs 21:5
One of the enemy’s favorite illusions is urgency. He cannot always stop you from making a good decision, so he pressures you into making it too quickly. Esau lost a birthright because of an urgent appetite. Saul lost a kingdom because he could not wait a few more moments for Samuel. Wisdom understands that urgency and importance are not the same thing. Some things are important but not immediate. Some things are immediate but not important. Learning the difference can save years of regret.
Many mistakes are not made because people lack intelligence. They happen because people feel rushed. A rushed purchase. A rushed relationship. A rushed response. A rushed decision. Proverbs consistently warns against haste because haste often silences discernment. The flesh says, “Do it now.” Wisdom says, “Think about it.” Faith moves when God speaks, but wisdom refuses to be pushed by pressure. If a decision is truly from God today, it will still be from God after prayer, counsel, and careful consideration.
Imagine a supermarket checkout line. The items placed closest to the cashier are often impulse purchases. They are positioned there because businesses understand human impatience. Many people treat life the same way. They grab the first option, the first opportunity, or the first reaction without considering the long term consequences. Wisdom is the ability to slow down enough to see what haste is trying to hide. Not every open door must be entered immediately, and not every opportunity is a divine appointment.
Prayer and Confession
Father, deliver me from unnecessary haste and pressure. Teach me to walk in wisdom, patience, and discernment. Help me to make decisions from conviction rather than emotion, and from faith rather than fear. I declare that I am led by Your wisdom and not driven by urgency. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
