Excitement Can Be as Dangerous as Anger

Many people know they should never make important decisions when they are angry, but excitement can be just as misleading. A heart that is overly excited can ignore wisdom as easily as a heart filled with anger. People have rushed into relationships, accepted job offers without praying, invested in questionable businesses, or spent money they did not have simply because they were carried away by the excitement of the moment. Excitement is a wonderful emotion, but it should never replace discernment. When emotions become louder than wisdom, even good opportunities can become costly mistakes.

King Saul made this mistake during a battle with the Philistines. Instead of patiently waiting for Samuel as God had instructed, Saul allowed the pressure and excitement of the moment to control him. He offered the sacrifice himself because he thought waiting was too risky. Ironically, Samuel arrived shortly after. Just a little more patience would have changed everything. Many times we lose God’s best because we cannot wait ten more minutes, one more day, or one more season. Emotional excitement often whispers, “Do it now!” while wisdom calmly says, “Wait and be sure.”

The Holy Spirit does not manipulate us with panic or uncontrolled excitement. He leads with clarity, peace, and conviction. Every opportunity should be tested, no matter how attractive it appears. Every promise should be weighed against Scripture, prayer, and wise counsel. Remember, not every open door is from God. Sometimes the enemy leaves doors wide open because he knows we rarely stop to ask who opened them. Faith is never impulsive. Faith moves at the speed of God’s instruction, not at the speed of human excitement.

Prayers and Confession
Father, deliver me from impulsive decisions. Help me to remain calm whether I am disappointed or excited. Teach me to seek Your wisdom before embracing every opportunity. I declare that I will not be pressured by circumstances or controlled by emotions. My steps are ordered by the Lord, and I walk in divine wisdom every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
