YOUR WORDS ARE HEADING SOMEWHERE

Key Text: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:21

One of the most powerful things God has placed in your mouth is your ability to speak. Your words do not merely describe what is happening around you; they can also reveal what you believe about what God has said concerning your future. This is why faith cannot consistently speak one thing in prayer and another thing in everyday conversation. You cannot spend thirty minutes saying, “Lord, I believe You are taking me somewhere,” and then spend the next two hours announcing, “Nothing good ever happens to me.” Your mouth should not be working against the future your faith is trusting God for.

Look at Abraham. God called him the father of many nations before he had even carried his first child. Abraham had to live and speak in agreement with what God had declared, even when his present circumstances looked like they had not received the memo. Romans 4:17 says God “calleth those things which be not as though they were.” Abraham’s faith was connected to God’s promise, and his words eventually reflected that reality. Sometimes, the biggest battle is not whether God can do it, but whether you will keep talking like someone who believes He can.

This does not mean pretending that problems do not exist or using positive words to deny reality. Faith acknowledges the situation but refuses to make the situation greater than God’s Word. You may say, “This is difficult, but God is helping me,” instead of, “My life is finished.” You may say, “I do not know how it will happen yet, but I trust God,” instead of, “It can never happen.” Your words should become evidence of where your confidence is placed, because when your mouth repeatedly agrees with fear, you strengthen fear, but when your mouth agrees with God’s Word, you keep your heart positioned toward faith.

Prayer and Confession
Father, thank You for the future You have prepared for me. Help me to bring my words into agreement with Your Word and Your promises concerning my life. I refuse to use my mouth to cancel what my faith is trusting You for. I declare that my words will produce faith, courage, wisdom and hope. I will speak according to Your truth, and I will not allow temporary circumstances to determine my permanent confession. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
