Self-Focused Vs God-Focused

Romans 8:7

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Many times unknowingly to us we are self – focused instead of been God – focused. What this mean is that, in our priority scale of doing things we think of our ability and strength to accomplish those things ourselves without necessarily involving anyone – and God in this context. Primarily this is what our society teaches us, that we can depend on our strength, gifts, creative mind etc. to get things done. But we know has believers that this is carnality and a form of Idolatry – idolatry is simply admiring or depending on an alternative to God.

Paul wrote in our text that a carnal mind is enmity against God. In other words a mind subject to the flesh endeavours to bury God in forgetfulness, and erase out of itself all memorials of God’s character and nature. The Message translation renders it this way, “Focusing of self is the opposite of focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed in self ignores God and ends up thinking about self than God” (Vs 7 MSG). You see that?

Hence, for us to be consciously God-Focused when it comes to we getting our jobs and other activities done, we must understand that we really do not have nothing so creatively to offer in and of ourselves. We only have Strength, ability or are creative to the extent that we recognize from whence the strengths, gifts etc. comes: God Himself. We must treasure what Solomon wrote in our heart when he said “in all your ways acknowledge him” in other words, set Him always before you, have Him always in view. Peace is found when we do this.

CONFESSION

I affirm that I am God focused
I place Him always before me
I acknowledge that all my strength, abilities and gifts are from Him.
Amen!
