Avoid Toxic Thoughts

Philippians 4:8

And now, brothers, as I close this letter, let me say this one more thing: Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about.

Everyday, we are exposed one way or the other to things that makes and shapes our thought pattern wether they are negative or positive. These things comes either from what we see or hear, and one thing our mind does is that it tends to receive all information without sieving which is good or bad.

It is apparent that has believers, we are to be conscious of what we allow “have a sit” in our mind by sieving out the ones that are toxic to life. Paul’s advice here is to consistently pick up thoughts that are best and not worse, beautiful and not ugly, things to praise and not things to curse (vs.8). He puts it like this in Colossians; “Let heaven fill your thoughts; don’t spend your time worrying about things down here” (3:2).

We must learn to guard our mind from garbage. This will only be effective when we allow the things Paul talked about come directly from God’s word. Hence, train your mind to be hungry for the knowledge of God’s word daily and then you will know the things that are right or wrong.

CONFESSION

My mind is guarded
And I commit to thinking and meditating on things that are noble and true.
Amen!
