Get rid of Malice
1 Peters 2:1 NIV
Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.
Our text today is an instruction for us to get rid of malice, deceit of all kind, hypocrisy, envy and slander of all kind. To get rid of something actually means putting an end to that particular thing. We are to put an end to them because they do not befit us as children of God. They are ungodly behaviours that shouldn’t be found with children of God because they are not consistent with who we are as God’s children.
As children of God, we have God’s nature in us. God has been so good to us. We have tasted of his graciousness. He did not only forgave our sins, He also imparted unto us his eternal Spirit which is actually an empowerment to live godly lives on this earth.
We cannot deny the reality of God’s word that we have the life and nature of God in us. There is therefore no excuse for us to live ungodly lives on earth. We have all the empowerment that we need.
So dear friend, when the word of God says “get rid,” it actually means we have the ability and power to get rid of those ungodly behaviours.
Choose to live a life that is consistent with who you are in Christ just as God’s word says in 1 Peters 2:9 NIV that “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
CONFESSION
I have the nature of God in me,
I will live a life consistent with who I am.
