Obeying Promptings of the Spirit
Devotional Reading: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” – Romans 8:14 (NKJV)
You know that little inner nudge you feel sometimes? The one that says, “Call that person,” or “Don’t eat that last food stuff, give it to your neighbor”? That’s not always your conscience; that could be the Holy Spirit whispering to you. And no, He doesn’t always sound like thunder or so obvious. Often, He speaks through simple impressions that seem small, but are loaded with divine power.
The power of God isn’t always about fire falling from heaven or just a spectacular event. Sometimes it’s just about following a soft tug in your spirit to pray, give, speak, or act. Think of it as God giving you a call and saying, “Now is your turn to shine!”
Take Philip in Acts 8 for example. He wasn’t running a crusade. He was just on his own when the Holy Spirit told him, “Go near that chariot.” No location-sharing, no GPS. Just “go near.” If it were some of us, we’d ask for confirmation, a sign, and then three dreams. But Philip obeyed. And what happened? He met a high-ranking Ethiopian official who was reading Isaiah, confused. Philip explained Jesus to him, the man got saved, and got baptized on the spot! No altar call. Just simple obedience that led to a supernatural result. That’s how power flows—one step at a time.
Sometimes, the Holy Spirit will prompt you to do something that makes you feel a bit awkward—like send airtime to someone who hasn’t texted or call you for a while. But then you find out they were stranded and praying for help. Coincidence? Nah, that’s divine setup.
You might be led to give, share a word, or just be present, and it becomes the breakthrough someone needed. Obedience is the channel; the Holy Spirit is the power; you’re the pipe. And the good thing is, you don’t have to be a prophet or wear suit; just be willing to act on that nudge. Sometimes, all it takes to shift things in the spirit realm is one obedient “yes”.
Prayer and Confession
Holy Spirit, make me sensitive to Your voice. Help me not to ignore Your promptings. Teach me to obey quickly and fully, knowing that each act of obedience is an opportunity to release Your power in Jesus name. Amen!
