You are as Jesus is
1 John 4:17
Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
The latter part of our opening text today revealed a great truth about our identity as believers. It says “as He is, so are we in this world.” This phrase is a continuation of verse 15 which reads “Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.” Therefore the word “He” being used in our opening text referred to Jesus Christ while the word “we” being used referred to believers in Christ Jesus.
Jesus said of himself while talking with his disciples in John 14:7 that knowing him is equivalent to knowing the father God. The Holy Spirit through the writer of Hebrew made us know that Jesus Christ is the exact copy and representation of God’s being which implies that Jesus Christ explains God to us. Whatsoever you cannot find in Christ Jesus cannot be found in God. Little wonder the Holy Spirit corroborates this truth through Apostle Paul in Colossians 1:15 that Jesus Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. Jesus is the perfect explanation of God. He is the revelation of God. He is God revealed. Hallelujah.
Beloved, this is a reality worth meditating upon.
You would have thought that’s all about Jesus. But then The Holy Spirit wants you to know that Jesus is not just the revelation of the father, He is also the revelation of that person who believes in Him as his or her saviour and Lord of which you are. As a believer in Christ, your identity is rooted and found in Christ Jesus. Jesus is your definition, not circumstance or people. He died for our sins and resurrected so He can make anyone that will believe into who He is himself. This is the reason God’s word said in Romans 8:29 that “For whom he(God) did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son(Jesus Christ), that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Can you see that? Glory to God.
Beloved, according to our opening text today, as Jesus is, so are you in this world. Don’t look at your circumstances or what people are saying. You are not defined by circumstances or people’s opinion of you. Look into Jesus’ life, every thing that defines Jesus defines you. Everything that is not found in Jesus is not your reality unless you accept it. Jesus is holy and righteous, so you are. Jesus is blameless and faultless, so you are. The words of Jesus are powerful, so are yours too. Jesus was never confused while on earth, He always know what to do. So you are too. Confusion is not in you except you allow yourself to be deceived and condone that unclean spirit of confusion to have its way around you. The list goes on and on. Jesus is your reality. Jesus is your identity. Never settle for less. God be praised.
CONFESSION
As Jesus is, so am I in this world.
Hallelujah!!
